Different Tube Materials and Coatings

The material of the tube and coatings on its surface can block or increase certain types of light waves. This helps control the lamp’s output for specific purposes.

Lamp Types

  • Mercury (Hg) Lamps
This is the most common UV lamp type.
  • Iron (Fe) Doped Lamps
The second most common lamp. Iron lamps shift UV light to longer, near-visible wavelengths. This helps penetrate thicker or heavily pigmented inks. Often used for the final curing step in inkjet printing. And in H-UV lamps for Komori Presses.
  • Gallium (Ga) Doped Lamps
These are best for curing white inks and coatings with titanium dioxide. Gallium lamps shift UV light to wavelengths above 380nm, which is ideal for curing white inks as they absorb most light below 380nm.

Lamp Constructions

Ozone-free lamps block harmful ozone-generating wavelengths, while HiC lamps boost UV output by using highly purified quartz. Both options enhance performance, and any doped lamp can be made with these features.
